Donohue's Marks Out Of Ten

Last updated : 30 April 2005 By Matt Donohue

GK Darryl Flahavan | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals Conceded: 1 | Rating: 6.5

A mortified Flahavan left Roots Hall today after Phil ‘the cheat’ Jevons had poked the ball past him and into the net. Flahavan, again, could do little about the, in fact Flahavan pulled off a great save in the first half. As Arron Davies appeared to have cleared the ball over Darryl’s head, Flahavan managed to get a right hand to the ball as it appeared to be heading in. It was a valiant effort but no consolation for the result.

RB Duncan Jupp | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Not a bad game from Juppy but he didn’t offer anything special other than the usual loopy crosses. Jupp did however link up well with the midfield, putting one great ball with the outside of his foot through to Pettefer.

CB Spencer Prior | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Prior defended very well as his set play defending vastly improved. Prior was a determined figure today but unfortunately was well out of site when Jevons scored the winner.

CB Adam Barrett | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7.5

Adam Barrett
Another loss for Barrett but he can take great heart from his own performance
MOTM: The sponsors awarded Barrett with the man of the match award, he picked up player of the season award and now Barrett picks up a trio of accolades with TLG man of the match! Although it was not Barrett’s best game he did play very well, going forward and in defence. Again the defence done little wrong and Barrett was at the heart of this. It was clear to see why Barrett is considered the best player in the league when he marked Jevons out of the game.

LB Che Wilson | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Returning from injury Wilson offered an amount of stability at the back and was far better in the left back position than Nicolau was. There was very little that Wilson done wrong although Jevons took him on, on a number of occasions. Wilson also picked up his third yellow card of the season but it will make no difference at this late stage.

RM/LM Carl Pettefer | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Gls: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

‘Harassed well.’ Where have I heard that before? Those of you who have read this feature regularly will realise that I have become increasingly frustrated with Petts’ inability on the wing. Yet again it showed but one thing I will say is you can’t doubt his effort. So as the season draws to an end, I officially announce Carl Pettefer as TLG hardest working player of the year.

CM Luke Guttridge | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

I was, again impressed with Guttridge and fully expect him to improve with his time at Roots Hall. League One or League Two, Guttridge will always be impressive and today was no different.

CM Kevin Maher | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 |Assists: 0 | Rating: 7.5

I dare say the ‘Maher critics’ will be out in full force but for me Maher played very well today. An example of this was a moan that went round the ground when Maher lofted a high pass to Gower. Few appreciated the accuracy on the pass, nor did they appreciate much of his commitment. Maher has given his all to this club, through all the bad times and now when we have good times, that he has lead the club to people moan at him. Give the guy a break!

LM/RM Mark Gower | Minutes on pitch: 80 | Gls: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Gower certainly looked a lot sharper today as he twisted and turned in typical Gower fashion. However Gower did appear to be a little shot-shy as he often dithered on the ball rather than hammering it. Presented with the Goal of the Season award, by the Echo’s Chris Phillips, Gower will look to Grimsby for another stunner.

CF Freddy Eastwood | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Eastwood really was not in the game today. Maybe not his fault but he often found himself out wide with the ball where he was completely ineffectual.

CF Wayne Gray | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Gray, in my opinion had a reasonable game all afternoon but he did not have the quality in the penalty box. The classic example of this was when he was offered with a great chance from a free header only to squirm the opportunity into the goalkeeper, Collis’ hands.

CM Mark Bentley | Minutes on pitch: 20 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Bentely was a surprised substitute and with only twenty minutes on the field it was hard for him to effect the game. However Bentley did look sharp and should start for the game against Grimsby.

CF Lawrie Dudfield | Minutes on pitch: 10 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: -

With only ten minutes on the field I barely noticed Dudfield as he failed to get into the game.
