SHRIMPERS

The last game at Roots Hall in a miserable season, at least we can have a party afterwards, and continue it at St.Mary's next weekend.

The hamstring hell that hit the club during the Oldham game has carried on to Saturday, so we might see Harry Crawford make his starting debut, instead of Vernon if we don't plan to keep him, but if we're paying him he should start until the end!

Could be the last time many who are not travelling to the South Coast will see a few faces in a Shrimper shirt, the vultures will be gathering in the summer.

A couple of pints of your finest bitter barman, then.....

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!

Possible Southend United: Mildenhall, Sankofa, Baldwin, M'Voto, Herd, Francis, McCormack, Grant, Vernon, Paterson, Moussa.

Subs: Jack, O'Keefe, Crawford & some more kids.

OPPOSITION

Under siege Hatters boss Gary Ablett has no new injury concerns ahead of clash between the first two relegated clubs in League One this season.

He might take the chance to promote some youth players who take on Shrimpers Under-18 nemisis side QPR in the Youth Alliance Cup final next week.

Matty Mainwaring (broken wrist), Johnny Mullins (back) and Greg Tansey (thigh) all remain on the sidelines.

Meanwhile Ablett is determined to hang on: "I still believe that, given the right personnel, I can make this football club into a competitive one next year."

Last Time Out: Stockport County 0 Huddersfield Town 6 (played on Saturday, April 24th.)

Stockport County suffered their 29th league defeat of a miserable season as Huddersfield Town hit the Hatters for six at Edgeley Park.

The 3,424 Terriers fans who made the trip over the Pennines to see their team clinch a play-off spot were not disappointed as goals from Anthony Pilkington, Theo Robinson, Jordan Rhodes, Gary Roberts, Danny Drinkwater and Lee Novak ensured their season would be extended by at least two games.

County, on the other hand, would happily end their season two games early.

Any hopes the Hatters had of containing Huddersfield were left in tatters after just two minutes.

Robinson was allowed the time to collect a loose ball in the box and pull it back for former County favourite Pilkington, who found the net thanks to a deflection off Sam Barnes.

Pilkington and Rhodes both forced Owain Fon Williams into saves either side of Jabo Ibehre's effort that flew over the bar after the on-loan frontman had done well to hold off Neal Trotman on the edge of the box.

But the Terriers doubled their lead in the 37th minute when David Perkins was bundled over in the County area and Robinson rolled the loose ball past Fon Williams.

The protests, both on the pitch and on the bench, fell on deaf ears and County were left with a mountain to climb.

Rhodes tapped in Huddersfield's third after Barnes had deflected Pilkington's cross against the post before Drinkwater, on loan from Manchester United, added a fourth with delightful free kick five minutes from time.

And in a disastrous four minutes of stoppage time, Gary Roberts clipped the ball over Fon Williams from 20 yards before Novak scored from the spot - after Barnes had brought down Drinkwater - to inflict County's heaviest home defeat of the season.

HISTORY

Stockport County were formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers by members of the Wycliffe Congressional Church, and played their first recorded game in October the next year. Shortly after they merged with a similarly named club, Heaton Norris, and on the 24th May 1890 changed their name to Stockport County to reflect Stockport becoming a County Borough.

The club adopted 'The Hatters' as their nickname, owing to Stockport's history as the centre of the hat-making industry, a nickname that is shared with Luton Town. Stockport supporters generally refer to the team simply as 'County'.

Stockport played in the Lancashire League until 1900. They then gained admission to the Football League Second Division. Unfortunately, the club finished in the bottom three for their first four seasons and at the end of the 1903-04 season they failed to gain re-election.

They then had one season in the Lancashire Combination, and were league champions. They were re-admitted to the Football League for the 1905-06 season, and the club have now been in this league for over a hundred years, although they have had to seek re-election on four further occasions.

On 30 April 2009, Stockport County were placed into administration following a battle to repay creditors. It followed a petition by a creditor to repay a loan of around £300,000.

Recently, the club has struggled to repay a tax debt of £250,000 to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

On Friday 12th of June, Leonard Curtis, administrators of Stockport County Football Club, announced that they had agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club. Paul Reeves, one of the joint administrators commented that: "Whilst a deal has been agreed, it is subject to the Melrose Consortium obtaining landlord approval. This is a positive step to safeguarding the club's future."

Gary Ablett, former manager of Liverpool reserves, was appointed manager on 8 July 2009 following talks with the new owners.

Sadly, Gary couldn't keep the Hatters from being the first team to be relegated from League One for the 2009/10 season.

In March 2010 it was announced that a new consortium, the '2015 Group' had been given exclusivity to work towards a takeover of the club. The Group hope to be approved by the Football League at their May 2010 meeting.
