SHRIMPERS

(A vital point for Exeter in the 1-1 draw away to Swindon Monday evening)
And that's presuming the Chairboys will get the 'R' letter by their name soon, though Southend could join them before we even get to play Stockport at Roots Hall in a couple of weeks time.
No pressure then, just a repeat of Walsall will do nicely, and the Moose will be back, and if Brentford want to go down to ten men early on, go ahead boys, two footed tackles welcome, but not too hard, we've got a very small squad.
So with sat navs at the ready to find out where Morecambe actually is, and it looks as if we'd even miss out on the good drinking available in Nottingham, we face the Bees of Brentford, knowing we really, really, have to get three points.
The West Londoners are on a good run at the moment with a 16 goal man in Charlie Macdonald who, like Paytner at Swindon, is showing what he might have done if we'd given them the chance.
So for the home team, and congrats to Tilly on taking charge of the side for his 300th league match.
With Franck straight back in, and hopefully Macca, the Shrimpers will look stronger than the last few games, but if there is going to be League Two football next season the epitaph must be 'Barnard went to Southampton January 2010', because it's hard to see who is going to to find the back of the net; please step up Mr. Vernon.
Tempting to start with Laurent, but I wouldn't, see past previews!
So, by 22.00 Tuesday evening, with the other results in, we will know if the Brighton game will even matter.
We've been asked to pay up front for our beer and bovril, bring a kid for a tenner, (www.southendunited.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10444~2021861,00.html), and sing our hearts out for the lads; and we will, now it's up to the lads to perform for us.
COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!
Possible Southend United: Mildenhall, Francis, Baldwin, Barrett, Herd, Grant, McCormack (or Christophe), O'Keefe, Vernon, Paterson, Moussa.
Subs: Jack, Sankofa, M'Voto, Christophe, Laurent, Crawford.
OPPOSITION
Bees boss Andy Scott will check on defender Pim Balkestein after the centre back, on-loan from Champion ship side Ipswich, didn't play in the 3-0 victory over Huddersfield at the weekend with a groin injury.
Definitely out are the versitile club captain Kevin O'Connor (foot), defender Mark Phillips (knee) and midfielder Ryan Dickson (hamstring).
Danny Foster played at right-back with so many back four players injured, but things are looking a little healthier up front where lively striker Carl Cort could even get a rest allowing Ben Strevens, who was on the bench against the Terriers, a start.
The safe & boring mid-table club (of which we wish United were a member!)

Last Time Out - Brentford 3 Huddersfield Town 0 (played Saturday, April 10th.)
Charlie MacDonald's double helped Brentford to an impressive victory against high-flying Huddersfield.
The Bees leading scorer broke the deadlock from the penalty spot and added a third late on after Lewis Grabban had fired the hosts into a 2-0 lead.
Andy Scott's side dominated the first-half against Lee Clark's promotion-chasers, with Grabban forcing Alex Smithies into a smart save midway through the half.
The on-loan Millwall star eventually had the ball in the net just after the half-hour mark when he deflected home MacDonald's long-range effort, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.
Huddersfield hit back after the break, with Wojciech Szczesny forced into a couple of decent saves.
But Brentford took the lead in the 71st minute through MacDonald.
Terriers skipper, (and don't laugh), Peter Clarke, was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, and the Bees hitman made no mistake from the spot.
Gary Roberts wasted a glorious chance to equalise for the visitors, and he was made to pay moments later when Grabban put the Bees two goals to the good.
Carl Cort sent him in the clear, and he lashed the ball past Smithies to wrap up the points.
MacDonald rubbed salt into the visitors's wounds late on, while Roberts blazed a late penalty over the bar for Town as Brentford ran out comfortable winners.
Brentford: Szczesny, Foster, Legge, Osborne, Wood, Grebban (Saunders 87), Bean, Diagouraga, Weston, MacDonald, Cort.
Subs not used: price, Blake, Hunt, Stephens.

Subs not used: Eastwood, N. Clarke, Pearce, Chippendale, Hunt.
(An Eastwood and a Hunt on the bench, haven't the Terriers got enough ex-Blues!)
Bookings: Drinkwater (45 mts.)
Referee: Mr. A. Hall (West Midlands)
Attendance: 5,209 (901 away fans).

HISTORY
Founded in 1889 to serve as a winter pursuit for the Brentford Rowing Club, the club spent its early years in the lower divisions of the Football League and achieved little of note, save for a move to its present day home ground, Griffin Park, in 1904.
In 1921, it was a founder member of the Third Division South. During the late 1920s and 1930s, the club began to make real progress. In the 1929-30 season, the side won all 21 of its home matches in the Third Division South (a record which still stands in English football), but still missed out on promotion. After several more near-misses, promotion to the Second Division was finally achieved in 1932-33.
Two years later, Brentford reached the First Division and finished 5th in its debut season - which is still the club's highest ever league position - to complete a remarkable rise for the club. Brentford achieved more impressive placings in the league for the rest of the decade (6th in the following two seasons) before the Second World War interrupted.
Since the War, they have spent most of their time in the third and fourth tiers of English football. Brentford have been FA Cup quarter-finalists on four occasions, and have twice been Football League Trophy runners-up.
Former BBC Director-General and Bees fan Greg Dyke was announced as chairman of Brentford on 20 January 2006 as part of the takeover by Bees United, the Brentford Supporters Trust.
On 25 April 2009 Brentford sealed the Coca-Cola League Two Championship (English Football's 4th tier) with a 3-1 win at Darlington. The Bees were awarded the Trophy in front of 10,223 fans at Griffin Park on May 2nd. They are the second team (after Doncaster Rovers) to win the fourth tier three times, and the only one so far to win the tier under its three names (Fourth Division, Division Three and League Two).
Scott's excellent first calendar year in charge was recognised with an award, the BBC London 'Manager of the Year 2008'. Scott was also awarded the 'Coca Cola League Two Manager of the Month' award for April/May 2009, which recognised the above title was won in difficult circumstances; with 4 strikers hospitalised in 8 games. During the 2008-09 campaign, three players also picked up awards:
- Marcus Bean — 'Powerade Player of the Month' for League Two December 2008
- Charlie MacDonald — 'Powerade Player of the Month' for League Two February 2009
- Jordan Rhodes — League Two 'PFA Fans' Player of the Season 2009' and League Two 'PFA Fans' Player of the Month' March 2009.
2009/10: A total of 13 new players have been bought in, mostly on free transfers.
Benham Partnership: On 5th August 2009 the amalgamation of fans' groups which help run the club - Bees United - announced they had ".. negotiated terms with Matthew Benham that will enable BU to continue in its role of ensuring the club is governed well, of protecting the long term interests of Brentford Football Club, and of giving you, our members, the right of veto over any unreasonable sale of the ground in which Brentford plays, so long as Brentford FC remains solvent".
The 'Benham Partnership' will hopefully see monies to keep the club afloat and improve the facilties at the ground, as well as helping the Management imropove the squad. Benham is a bookmaker: the CEO of Smartodds.
