SHRIMPERS

Amazing we've heard nothing form club and local media about the injury to Lee Sawyer, though the message boards are abuzz with the former Chelsea youth being out for the season.

All quiet on the Captain Craig Easton front as well.

So hoping top scorer Barry Corr has got over his bug, and that the above two remain on the sidelines, I'm guessing Luggy will go with the team below.

Blimey, one more injury in the back four and we really are in shit street, if not there already, however Miguel Comminges is reported fit so could return to the left-back position though he didn't look safe there against Lincoln, personally I'd stick with young Teddy!

Optimisim is hard at the moment, eight wins in a rwo, give me a break, but here's hoping whoever Luggy puts out can raise their game once again, it's nearly all over lads, trips to Accrington and the Potteries over the next week to look forward to aside, let's not mention Macclesfield on Easter Monday, and pick up three points against an in-form Aldershot Town.

2-1 to the Shrimpers; oh why not, the sun's out!

Possible Southend United: Morris, Clohessy, Coughlan, Barker, Nesbitt, Ferdinand, Hall, Grant, Woodyard, Sturrock, Corr.

Subs: Evans, Comminges, Stephens, Smith, Soares, Crawford, Asante.

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!

OPPOSITION

Aldershot are have lost once in 12 games and unbeaten in the last seven.

They have drawn an amazing eight times in that 12, don't expect good odds on that result, and last tasted defeat at Port Vale, 2-1, on Saturday, February 26th.

Shots boss Dean Holdworth was a positive man after the 1-1 home draw with Accrington last weekend, (report below), and remember we play the Stanley ourselves next Tuesday at their place.

Holdworth told the Press Association: "I'm delighted to be quite honest with you - we've had seven games, a great month and we are learning. There's a better attitude in the dressing room and they don't want to get beat. There's no relaxing, we came up against a good side who hunted us down, pressed us and had a bit more quality up till half time. One thing about the game was that we scored from a set piece which we've been missing, which was a positive."

The former Cheltenham striker Damian Spencer was handed his first Aldershot start in five months against the Reds, he's been out with a knee injury but came on to score the winner against Stockport the previous weekend, and was a half-time substitute in the win over Barnet last Tuesday.

Winger Alex Rodman made his comeback from a calf injury in the same match, while fellow wideboy Jermaine McGlashan is struggling with an ongoing shin splints problem but is available.

Youth-team graduate midfielder Adam Mekki should be included in the squad again having been dropped to the subs bench last week.

Forward Jack Randall broke his leg while on loan at Didcot Town recently and is a long-term absentee.

Veteran left-back Jamie Vincent has left due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

Player to watch:

Luke Guttridge (in all his glory!)

Don't you just love him? And we all did for a while before we found out he was a twat al la Screech.

Anyway, the talented midfielder seems to have found a home at the Rec and is the second top scorer with six goals stuck between Wade Small and Anthony Charles with seven and five respectively.

Well, that's not much kop, though technically correct, we've obviously got a rich history going back to 1932 playing the old Aldershot and for all those fine results, we've played 81 times, won 36, drawn 23 and lost 22, click on to the link here:

HISTORY

In March 1992, the town of Aldershot was without a football club after Aldershot F.C. became the first Football League team to fold during the football season since Accrington Stanley in 1962.

Aldershot Town was born later the same year, and began life competing in the Isthmian League Division Three.

Despite Aldershot Town playing five divisions lower than the Football League, the attendance for their first competitive fixture was higher than the old team's last home tie.

Ten successive victories were recorded under the guidance of former player Steve Wignall
and Aldershot won the championship by an 18-point margin.

Eventually, after 16 long seasons, the garrison town of Aldershot had a football league side to support once again.

This season 42-year-old former Wimbledon and Bolton striker Dean Holdsworth left his job as Newport County boss to replace previous manager Kevin Dillon at the beginning of the year.

Holdsworth left the Newport Stadium with the Welsh club in the Blue Square Conference Premier play-off places after guiding them to promotion from the Conference South last season with a record haul of 103 points, beating the previous mark set by, ironically, Aldershot, in 2007/08.

The then Shots top scorer Marvin Morgan, he grabbed the winner in the 1-0 late win over Southend at the EEB Stadium back in September, joined League One Dagenham & Redbridge in January after a public falling out with the club's fans, he wished some of them would die; charming!
