SHRIMPERS

It's always a lottery picking a team for the JPT but even more so this time around with the current injury situation as it is.

Some clues from the Echo on twitter, see link below, and I would go with all of Blues boss Paul Sturrock's current thinking, we are lucky to have a big enough squad this campaign, let's use it, though the training ground today and Tuesday will reveal a lot.

As it is JP Kalala remains very doubtful, and for the keeper, throw Daniel into the den, see what he's made of!

Would laso give Peter Gilbert another run-out at left-back for this one, and rest Ryan Hall for Jemal Johnson, got to show what he's got soon enough.

Neil Harris should have a day off as well at 33, but son of Luggy Blair for Johnson to ease his ankle problem means he should start.

And playing sicknote three times in a week is a risk too far, even beating starting with Bilel, cup runs are great but three league points on Saturday are more important and centre-back Mark Phillips is looking good, especially in front of goal! (What a cracking header, link also below for highlights from Vale Park.)

Possible Southend United: Bentley, Leonard, Mohsni, Barker, Gilbert, Ferdinand, Grant, Sawyer, Johnson, Sturrock, Harris.

Subs: Morris, Prosser, Nesbitt, Woodyard, Hall, Crawford, Asante.

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!

TICKET DETAILS

Ticket prices will be a generous £10 for Adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-16's.

OPPOSITION

Might be some changes after the disaster that was Whaddon Road, but knowing Crawley, which I don't much to be honest, they will probably have reserves better than most League Two starting line-up's, we will see, anyway, here's the latest.

Goalkeeper Michel Kuipers could get his second run-out of the season and striker John Akinde, the summer signing from Bristol City, is pushing for a full debut.

Michael Doughty, Matt Tubbs and Glenn Wilson were thrown on at half-time of the weekend defeat and John Dempster, Scott Neilson and Ben Smith are also looking to return, along with winger Sergio Torres, who was a surprise omission from the squad on Saturday.

Skipper Pablo Mills (ankle) and fellow defender Jamie Day (back) are still in the treatment room.

Red Devils boss Steve Evans decided to hold back in his views after the 3-1 defeat against Cheltenham Town, their first in 34 league outings and their first as a League club.

He told www.crawleytownfc.com: "In the first half, the players were cheats, lazy and not fit to wear the jersey. They were disgraceful - how many words do you want me to pick out the dictionary. If I'd had 11 subs I would have made 11 changes. I had three subs so I made three changes. In the second half, Cheltenham didn't get a touch - we smashed them. [Matt] Tubbs should have scored, [Tyrone] Barnett should have scored and [Josh] Simpson should have scored. You need to forget Torquay (won away 3-1). There were no positives, we were beaten by a poor side. We should have won the second half 3-0 or maybe more but my concerns were with the first half and the personnel in the first half. I have used a host of words and I mean every one of them. When you lose it comes down to the players and the players never performed. We will bounce back at eight o'clock on the training ground on Sunday."

Nice!

And these are the selected highlights, for the full wrath of Evans, he really could be Fry in disguise, click on the links below including the goal highlights, well worth it for a laugh, but don't expect the same team to turn up Tuesday night.

Player to watch

Josh Simpson

To be honest there's so many we could fill an entire article so let's watch out for former loanee Josh, if picked of course as he could a special mention from manager Evans (see above), whose been quite a playmaker since joining from Peterborough, let's hope we mark him out of the game.

HISTORY

Formed in 1896, Crawley Town began life in the West Sussex League where they remained for five years before transferring to the Mid-Sussex League, winning the League in only their second season

They stayed at this level until they entered the Sussex County League in 1951 before switching again 5 years later to the Metropolitan League. The league was a competition for both professional and amateur sides. Crawley retained their amateur status and went on to win the Metropolitan League Challenge Cup in 1959.

Crawley turned semi-professional in 1962 and the following year they joined Division One of the Southern League. In 1969 they were promoted to Premier Division of the Southern League but the joy was short lived as the following they were relegated back to the first division where they remained until the 1983-84 season when they were promoted as runners-up.

In August 2006 it was announced that the club would fold due to their debts, and they came within an hour of the liquidation deadline. However, a last-minute rescue package saved the club and allowed them to carry on playing, albeit with a 10 point deduction for entering administration.

For the start of the 2007-08 season a new regime was put into place which included Victor Marley as club Chairman and Steve Evans as manager, with Paul Raynor as assistant. The season didn't get off to the best of starts as the club was deducted six points due to their financial standing. Crawley finished the season in a respectable 15th place, and were runners-up in the Sussex Senior Cup, despite the club's financial position and points deduction.

In April 2008 Prospect Estate Holdings Limited took control of Crawley after buying it from the SA Group in conjunction with former owner John Duly. The club's financial worries were over and the club could look to build again and start the 2008-09 season on a level playing field.

2010 was the beginning of a new era for Crawley Town, Co-owner Bruce Winfield announced that the clubs £1 million debt had been cleared and that manager Steve Evans would be given the funds to assemble a squad capable of securing promotion to the football league. Big money was spent bringing in Matt Tubbs, for £70,000 Sergio Torres for a record £100,000, and Richard Brodie for an undisclosed fee, the fee paid is estimated at a new Conference record of £275,000. The season didn't start as planned as Crawley picked up only 1 point from their opening two games, however form soon picked up and Crawley were soon challenging the leaders.

Crawley's spending was criticised by many who branded them "the Manchester City of Non League" having spent around £500,000 on new players, however their remarkable FA Cup run brought in an estimated £2 million, having beaten Championship Derby County 2-1 in the 3rd round, followed by a 1-0 win at League Two Torquay United in the 4th round and setting up a dream tie at Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the 5th round. Crawley lost the game 1-0 in front of 9,000 Crawley fans and were denied a remarkable draw in the 93rd minute when Richard Brodie's header hit the bar.

Despite the Cup run Crawley remained focused on winning the league title, Crawley spent much of mid season close to the leaders AFC Wimbledon but with games in hand due to the cup run. Crawley soon caught up with the leaders having been unbeaten in the league since October 2010.

The death of Co-Owner and life long fan Bruce Winfield in March 2011, shocked the Crawley community, though the club vowed to continue his good work, and just 19 days after Winfield's death his dream was realised when Crawley Secured the League title by beating Tamworth 3-0 and reaching The Football League for the first time in the club's history. The Red Devils' first ever game in the Football League will be away at Port Vale on August 6, 2011.
