Witham Town 2 Southend United 5

This time Alan McCormack led the charge with a brace along with Dougie Freedman, Stuart O'Keefe and, good to see this, Alex Revell grabbing the goals.

Due to Stepanov picking up his hamstring injury Friday night the other 6ft plus centre half trailist Juan had a full 90 minutes.

Maccas's first came in the 25th minute, before Freedman doubled the lead in the 39th minute.

Just before half time in the Witham scored their first. However, inbetween the 42nd and 45th minute, Southend were still able to get two more!

Macca got his second with another typical blast from 12 yards and then O'keefe rifled one home off the left-hand post.

4-1 to United at the break were Blues made a mere nine substitutions this time around.

Revell in the 75th minute made it five, a welcome sight after his long injury lay-off, but Witham still had the time to grab a consolation before the final whistle.

Tilly after the game told the Echo: "It was a little bit disappointing to let them score twice but overall I'm happy again with how things went. It was quite a difficult surface to have to play on but the lads coped well and put together some good moves. We didn't get any injuries which is a massive plus and scoring five goals was obviously nice as well."

He was happy enough though seeing Alex hit the back of the net again: "It was nice to see Revs getting a goal. He's worked hard to get fit and, even though it's pre-season, hitting the back of the net again will help to improve his confidence I'm sure."
