Widdrington: 'Altough they were beaten in a thrilling game last week'

Southend United assistant boss Tommy Widdrington accepts his side has a very tough task to hold the Merry Millers of South Yorkshire Saturday, but the best way to beat them is to, er, score more goals than them.

Widdrington told www.southendunited.co.uk: "They are a team at the moment that is in confident mood, altough they were beaten in a thrilling game last week. We know they can score goals, but they can also concede goals. And we need to make sure that we can be a team who can impart our will on them. Because the team that does that from the off, I'm sure will come out on top."

Trouble is we heard that a couple of weeks ago about the even more free-scoring Crewe, and they still grabbed a couple while we scored......none.

Even so, three points would be very important and Tommy finished on a rallying cry to his team to start improving their performances so the Shrimpers lowly league position will start moving upwards.

He concluded: "Everybody knows that our form should be better, and Saturday needs to be where we start doing that."

Moore: Will be looking to strengthen

Moore: 'We've got to go to Southend full of confidence'

The Shrimpers faithful know the Millers boss Ronnie Moore very well after many battles with his teams at both Rotherham in a former life and his last club, Tranmere Rovers.

Always creating sides that don't pull out of a tackle while scoring the odd goal his fourth placed players will give their all at Roots Hall at the weekend, yet he still wants to see an improvement, not surprising as they scored three at home last week, and lost!

Moore told Millers Player: "We've got to go to Southend full of confidence because some of the attacking play we had on Saturday was fantastic. Southend's performance are going well but they are under a bit of pressure because results aren't going for them and so it's a winnable game for us. We've got to get back to being rock solid and one-nillers will do me."
