Tommy Widdrington; No longer the Blues No. 2, says club, what a surprise!

Southend United denied any suggestion that assistant boss Tommy Widdrington has left the club after he was failed to be seen at Tuesday evenings 2-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.

They fibbed!

An official statement from www.southendunited.co.uk has been released Wednesday afternoon saying that Blues boss Paul Sturrock took the decision to release Widdrington 'in order to bring a fresh impetus to the club'.

They continued: "Sturrock will be evaluating suitable candidates to fill the role in the near future."

Good luck whoever takes that post, but look at who he had with him at Swindon, that might be a good bet with the players he's signed so far!

A club spokesman told www.echo-news.co.uk only Tuesday: "There are no truth in the rumours that Tommy has gone. He was not at the game because of special circumstances."

However, less than 24 hours later Widdrington is gone!

And we're not surprised, as S24 wrote yesterday, Uncle Ron has got history, former assistant manager Paul Brush went after last season's 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool after a previous run of poor results, and then look what happened to Tilly!

Luggy better keep looking over his shoulder whatever he's been told by Uncle Ron, the Shrimpers supremo has been known to speak with forked tounge!

To Tommy; best of luck mate, a non-league club will be on the phone soon enough.
