What to do without Bilel?

Kane Ferdinand

Could Kyle Ferdinand be the answer at centre-back?

With star defender Bilel Mohsni out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury Blues boss Paul Sturrock will have to decide who replaces the French Tunisian at centre-half, or as our new scoring sensation, four in four and a half games before limping off midway through the second half of our defeat to Shrewsbury Town last time out.

The obvious choice is ether veteran Graham Coughlan or fit again Mark Phillips, but how about Irish Under-19 lad Kane Ferdinand, who looked as assured as he does playing in front of the back four when he took over from the injured Bilel?

That would free up a place in midfield for the exciting Lee Sawyer who could well be the spark for a more lively performace for the Shrimpers that Luggy was looking for.

Captain Craig Easton could drop back a touch to fill a more defensive role.

A tough ask for Kane, before Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bradford City the Chairboys had looked to have a number of options in attack, though boss gary Waddock is moaning about a lack of goals, as they rose to third place in the League, but one we believe he would be capable of performing well enough.

Sawyer should start, as could young Kyle Asante, now that would be a gamble!

EEB's possible Southend starting line-up:
Evans, Clohessy, Ferdinand, Barker, Gilbert, Sawyer, Grant, Easton, Hall, Sturrock, Asante. Subs: Morris, Coughlan, Phillips, Comminges, Soares, Corr, Crawford.
