Vernon: 'We are lacking that little bit of self belief in front of goal'

Scott Vernon has certainly had enough chances recently and the loanee from ColU missed another couple on Saturday which he accepts reponsibilty for.

Vernon told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I had a couple of chances and I was frustrated not to have put them away. At the moment we are lacking that little bit of self belief in front of goal but it was a good defensive display and other than putting the ball in the back of the net we played well."

The weekend at Roots Hall was the first match David Webb assisted Tilly in, and the former Shrimper manager watched the game from the comfort of the Directors Box but still found time to pass on his thoughts.

Vernon explained: "It was a little bit different with David Webb there. He had his say before the game, at half-time and back in the changing room after the match. It's another opinion which is going to help us and hopefully we can make it happen."

And finally, any chance of getting out of this mess?

Vernon concluded: "We have a couple of home games now so we have to get maximum points out of them. That is going to be hard but we have to go into those believing we can do it."
