Urged not to go to Roots Hall but the phones in demand

Over 2,200 tickets were sold on day one of the sale of tickets for the F.A. Cup replay against Chelsea.

There was a fantastic demand for tickets but though the temperatures fell close to zero during both mornings people still decided to queue and feel the actual ticket in their hand.

Personally, due to working in London, I tried to get through by phone but was constantly told to try back later due to demand!

In the end I went online which worked easily enough but it does leave you in the hands of the post office, I hope the club gives copies just in case!

The club does remind everyone that the afternoons of the second and third day are the best periods to call however at 16.45 on the Wednesday there was still the usual 'due to demand, phone back later' message.

I hope nobody misses out, a fax from the office is another good idea.

The box office remains open for the first category of sales until 17.00 on Thursday January 8.

In the meantime, Chairman Ron Martin is looking forward to the even bigger support that next Wednesday's replay is going to bring to the team.

Almost 6,000 Shrimpers fans travelled to Chelsea and the noise they generated at Stamford Bridge left Martin overwhelmed, in fact it was the only noise made at the ground for most of the game.

Uncle Ron said: "People have often commented that our fans are the best in League One but I think they are getting close to being the best in the country too. They were just fantastic at the game on Saturday and it wasn't just me who thought that. The Chelsea directors were also praising them and it's the same wherever we go. The police are always very complimentary about the fans too and they really do make an enormous difference to the team when they get right behind them. For me the match at Stamford Bridge was all about the fans and I'm delighted that even more of them will be able to see the replay now. It's going to be another very special night and it's tremendous for the whole town. I know it's a cliché but Chelsea certainly won't fancy coming here to play and hopefully we can take advantage of that."

Martin also wants the cup run to boost Blues' League One campaign: "We are 13th at the moment which is lower than I expected but the players have shown now that they have the skill to be much higher up. Hopefully we can get on a run now and if the team remain 100 per cent focused then I still believe we could make the top six. We need to bring in players in a couple of positions and I look forward to see who he suggests. I've never said no to Steve and that remains the same. After the weekend though, and how well Johnny Herd played, I think it's clear we don't need a new left-back."
