United Set To Sign Villa Wide Man

The future of fellow Villa wide man John McGrath is undecided - but don't rule out another signing.

Tricky and skillful Smith, who is most at home on the left side of midfield, but can also play at back impressed Newman and supporters alike during United's pre-season campaign, and it looks likely that Smith will initially be brought to Roots Hall on loan, thus enabling him to be selected for Saturday's Roots Hall encounter with Shrewsbury Town, and presumably Newman is hoping to secure a more permanent deal for the talented and lievely youngster some time next week.

Surprisingly 20-year old Smith did not play in last night's Reserve team match at Brighton & Hove Albion, and another face that was absent was that of fellow Aston Villa man John McGrath, a right-sided former Republic of Ireland Under 21 winger who also impressed Newman. Supporters cannot rule a deal completely out of the pipeline however.
