Today both James Lawson and Joel Ledgister have been loaned out

Lawson has been loaned to Grimsby, most Southend fans will still remember Grimsby for ‘that day' when Southend missed out on automatic promotion.

Tilson explained his reasons for Lawson, going out on loan, “Things started really well for him last season but we felt he's stagnated a little, that's mainly down to a lack of chances.”

He went onto say, “Going to Grimsby will toughen him up and also give him the football he needs.”

Ledgister has been loaned out to Lewes, who play in the Conference South, he has gone on a one month deal. Ledgister signed a one year professional contract at the end of last lesson.

Joel will still be training with Southend, but will have the added bonus of playing with adults on a Saturday.

When asked about the decision Southend's Assistant manager Paul Brush said, “We feel that playing regularly on a Saturday against adults would help toughen him up”, he went on to say, “Joel has a bit of quality about him, and if he trains with us in the week and gets the opportunity to play more, then it can only be a good thing
