Transfer Deadline Day News

Last updated : 31 August 2007 By Chris Daniels

Southend have signed highly-rated Leicester youngster Eric Odhiambo on loan, initially for the next 33 days.

Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson has been searching for a striker in recent days and has now recruited the 18-year-old Odhiambo.

He made his first-team debut for Leicester in the Carling Cup tie against Aston Villa in 2006 and also featured in the same competition against Accrington Stanley earlier this season.

Odhiambo, who scored 20 goals in 19 matches for the Foxes' Under-18s last season, told the club's official website: "I am at the time in my career where I want to get some experience and Southend are giving me the opportunity. The main reason I decide to come here was that they have offered me the opportunity to play and if I can be anywhere near as prolific as last season then everyone will be happy."

Assistant boss Paul Brush said: "We saw him play before the end of last season and he is very highly rated as a young player everywhere in this country and a lot of people know about him. It has been worthwhile to go through all of those weeks to make sure that we got him."

Lee Bradbury will stay at Bournemouth for good.

The news this morning is that Lee Bradbury has left Southend on a permanent basis.

Lee Bradbury is now a Bournemouth player after the Cherries captured his signature on deadline day.

Southend had already decided to loan out the foward to Bournemouth earlier in the month but today the move was made for good.

Lee made 52 appearances and scored 9 goals for the Shrimpers.

It was widely known that Lee was having to commute from the South coast so a move to Bournemouth or similar was ideal for him.

JCR To Stay?

Southend rejected a new bid from Barnsley for winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce as boss Simon Davey played down the chance of new signings.

Davey insists he is no rush to add to his squad on transfer deadline day but admitted still being interested in Campbell-Ryce, who has been left out of the Southend squad for their last two matches amid interest from the Tykes.

Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin has revealed Barnsley did table a second reduced offer, believed to be 150k, 100k down on the original offer, which has been rejected out of hand.

"Barnsley have submitted another bid which was considerably lower than their offer four weeks or so ago," he told the club's official website.

"I have categorically turned that offer down."
