Tilly: 'We keep giving soft goals away'

Blues boss Steve Tilson could only lament the habit of his side to not being able to take advantage of having plenty of the ball.

Tilson spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "We have lost another game where I think we have had more chances than them and not taken them. At half time, I felt comfortable as Colchester had not really hurt us, but within a minute we are a goal down."

The Southend manager went on to describe some more poor defending.

Tilly continued: "We keep giving soft goals away and especially the second one, when we were in possession of the ball and have ended up giving away a free kick on the edge of the box. That is disappointing, because really and truthfully, we should have got something from the game."

AIDY BOOTHROYD

Boothroyd: 'Winning a derby match is important'

U's manager Aidy Boothroyd on the other hand was more than happy with team.

Boothroyd told www.gazette-news.co.uk: "I felt we did OK in the first half but in the second half we were terrific. We caught them cold."

The former Watford boss continued to be positive about earning bragging rights for his north Essex side.

Boothroyd concluded: "Winning a derby match is important. You want to please those people who pay your wages. Every derby is feisty and insults are thrown back. You have to make sure that you're not caught up in the occasion"
