Tilly: 'We had two fantastic chances to score'

Blues boss Steve Tilson feels his side have to get more 'ruthless' in front of goal to turn possession into points away from Roots Hall.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "We had more possession than Exeter than Exeter and deserved something from the game. We needed to be more clinical to convert the chances we created, as we did against Hartlepool last week. We had two fantastic chances to score through Jabo in the first half and he knows he should have found the back of the net."

He believed his side were caught on the break as Tilly concluded: "Exeter worked and fought hard, but they went ahead against the run of play. They sat back in the second half, but we have got to be more ruthless in and around the box to pick up results. We now have two derbies to look forward to against Colchester and Leyton Orient and I'm sure they will be frantic matches."

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale

Tisdale: 'Win was well deserved'

Grecians boss Paul Tisdale saw his side hang on to the single goal Stansfield scored in the first half to stop a run of four successive defeats.

He spoke after the game: "It was well deserved and somewhat different to how we imagined or pictured ourselves playing. It was a fantastic effort from the players and it feels very sweet because we had to work really hard for it. We don't care how we score, a goal is a goal, but we kept a clean sheet as well and there haven't been too many of those this year."
