Tilly: 'I didn't feel they were threatening us up to the first penalty'

Blues boss Steve Tilson spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk after the game: "Never in a million years was the second one a penalty. He's given it for a foul by Franck Moussa but he's clearly won the ball and I could see that from where I was sitting so I'm not sure how he's given it. A draw at Brentford would not have been a bad result but to lose it like that at the death is very hard to take."

Though he didn't argue about the first believing Sankofa went in with his feet first after Blues gave away the ball in the middle of the pitch when Brentford were not causing his side any real problems.

However, Tilly continued: "To be honest we weren't threatening them either, but we didn't have to and I thought we were looking comfortable. We are getting some bad decisions against us right now but all the moaning and groaning in the world at the referee is not going to change the result, so we just have to get on with things."

Brentford's manager Andy Scott

Scott: 'I asked them to show bottle and everyone did'

Bees Boss Andy Scott told www.brentfordfc.co.uk: "I think we played reasonably well in the first half. They scored a goal without having a shot, altough whether it was a goal or not I don't know. The linesman said he was in line but we have seen photographs from a photographer on the goal line and it doesn't look in."

So Brentford went into the break one down.

Scott continued: "At half time it was a case of making sure the injustice of the goal against us didn't harm us. I thought we were excellent in the second half and Kevin stepped up to take the penalties and showed real professionalism. We deserved it, we kept them under real pressure in the second half."
