Tilly: 'It was a workmanlike performance'

Blues boss Steve Tilson was pleased that the hard work his side put in to gain their first win on the road after seven successive losses.

Tilson spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "We set up to play 4-4-3 with the ball and 4-5-1 without the ball and that frustrated Orient. They played a lot of long balls, but we coped well. You would like to think the system worked, but I think it was down to hard work that we won today. It was a workmanlike performance and it gives us some breathing space in the table"

Tilly though could still be critical about the defending that led to the O's taking the lead.

He explained: "We gave away a poor goal, as Granty has taken too many touches and we lost possession to allow them to score, but from our point of view, it was a great time to equalise just two minutes later through Adam. Macca has then come up with the winner, altough Barney is trying to claim it!"

Williams: 'Getting that first goal should have been vital'

Orient boss Geraint Williams was left frustrated once again as his side have taken the lead in three of the last four matches and failed to win any of them.
Williams told www.leytonorient.com: "It was a familiar story of late. We talk about it, but talk doesn't get it done. We know when we get in front, we need to get back in the opposition half, but within a couple of minutes today we've conceded again."

The former Colchester manager knows what his side has to do as they sunk into the bottom four of League One.

Williams continued: "It was a tight derby game and getting that first goal should have been vital, but it wasn't because we let them back with a soft goal. You can't do that and when you look at both goals it's the story of our season. We defend well for large parts of the game again. It's not good enough."
