Tilly: 'Red card has cost us the game'

Blues boss Steve Tilson was not a happy bunny with referee Dave Phillips after Yeovil Town defeated his side 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

He insisted that the ref had told Sean Morrison, who only lasted half an hour, that he was only going to book the Swindon loanee, but gave him a red!

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "Three big decisions went against us and cost us the game. I haven't sent the incident again on the DVD but at the time I didn't think it was a red card because Adam Barrett was there covering. I'm not sure the free-kick which led to the goal should have been awarded and he's handballed into the back of the net. It's just so disappointing because I thought the lads were excellent and Yeovil seemed to have run out of ideas."

Skiverton: 'The crowd were treated to a very good game of football'

Glovers Terry Skiverton was magnanimous in victory as well as praising his own side.

Skiverton talked to BBC Radio Bristol: "Yes, the one thing that I do begrudge is this weather. For them to have come out today, I'd like to thank the supporters that did come out. They got behind us at the right times and they were treated to a very good game of football. Southend play some good football. They've got good pace and movement throughout their team and they caused us a few problems."

As for playing against ten men for an hour, Skiverton continued: "It's not easy when a team goes down to ten men, because you've really got to come out and break them down. They still had some potent strikers in Barnard and Freedman and then when James Walker came on, we all knew about him. So I'm very pleased with the performance today and the way that we won and the football that we played."

He concluded: "I think that we're becoming a bit of a technical team and we're coming up against very strong sides and yet with our movement and a lot of our technical passing, we're causing teams a lot of problems."
