Tilly: 'We will have to go into the game with the right attitude'

Blues boss Steve Tilson told the official site: "They had a good win against Carlisle last week and we will have to go into the game with the right attitude because Oldham are a good side. There are seven or eight teams in this league who you know are going to be there or thereabouts but other than them everyone else is very closely matched. Anyone of those sides can beat any of the others and that's what we need to be wary of."

Higher Tilly, we always aim higher

After last season when Southend couldn't buy a draw it's been a surprise to see the team pick up so many, five in the first eight.

He continued: "If I am honest I would rather have lost one then won one as it would have meant more points. As Brucie said points make prizes but it is a confidence booster not to lose so we look towards the positives." (Er, yes Tills.)

Dave Penney, Oldham Athletic manager

Penney: 'Tilson's been there for 5 years and it shows in his side'

Meanwhile, Latics boss Dave Penney was still warming in the glow of the club's first home win since Valentine's Day, 2-0 over Carlisle, admitting it 'got the monkey off our back' so 'the fans can go home with a smile on their face'.

However, he accepts his side will have a far tougher test at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon.

Penney spoke to www.oldhamathletic.co.uk: "Southend are always around the play-offs. Steve Tilson's been there for 5 years, which is a good amount of time nowadays in management, and it shows in his side. But hopefully we'll get something out of Southend and then capitalise on the two home games against MK Dons and Yeovil."
