Tilly: 'Expect youth players to show me they deserve a place on the bench'

With all that's been going on behind the scenes you could understand Blues boss Steve Tilson wanting to walk away from it all. Nothing is further from his mind.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "I still love coming onto the training ground and working with the players. They have been a different class and I think they showed that last Friday with the way they played against Gillingham."

On the match itself he insisted he would not risk Scannell and Freedman unless they are 100% fit. but would not pick youth team players just for the sake of it. (Not that he's got a lot of choice.)

He continued: "With the situatuation we are in you would expect some of them to show me that they deserve a place on the bench rather than being there because we have no choice."

Stimson: Taking the positives

Stimpson: 'We just need to get that little bit of luck'

Don't ask for the lottery numbers from Gills boss Mark Stimpson, he doesn't feel very lucky at the moment!

The ex-Blues full back is also in a state of confusion over the effort that was cleared off the line by Captain Adam last Friday, it certainly never went over it!

Stimpson talked to www.kentonline.co.uk: "I can't question the boys' commitment or effort, it's just that little bit of quality at certain times and a little bit of luck. We aren't far off and we just need to get that little bit of luck and a decision from a referee. I don't think we got any of the luck we deserved and we scored two perfect goals. Goals change games. If the Jacko one went over the line we were in the driving seat. If that was to be allowed we're 1-0 up and the free-kick makes it 2-0."
