Tilson on Francis move to Brentford: 'He may feel it's a sideways switch'

Tilson: 'Simon is away in Cyprus at the moment'

Well, whatever the Hounslow Chronicle may have heard, the Shrimpers right back Simon Francis will not be becoming a Bee anytime soon, as he's sunning himself off the eastern Mediterranean, not that will stop his agent working on his behalf!

Tilly told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Franno turned down a move to Peterborough in January because he felt it was a sideways switch and he may feel the same with Brentford. I'm not sure because only he can really answer that question and he's away in Cyprus at the moment, so we will just have to wait and see what happens when he returns."

The odds still favour Simon moving on, but maybe not to West London

Not sure League One is a sideways move in our circumstances Tills, especially as he feels he's worth a higher stage, and the Shrimpers manager says himself, Simon's the best attacking full-back in League One. (Though he also adds if his defending was as good Franno would be in the Premier League!)

Yes, he turned down Championship Posh, but they looked pretty certain to be relegated, and obviously decided not to match whatever deal Simon's on at Roots Hall, Brentford might be willing to cough up the dosh.

So, it still looks as if another Southend player-of-the-season is off, but to whom may yet to be decided, and that can only please Uncle Ron if an auction starts to take place, and there's an improvement on 150k for a player with a year left on his contract.
