Nicky Nicolau
Nicolau looks set to sign within the next few weeks
The left back turn winger has had a turbulent season and has spent most of the time on the substitutes bench. However the year ended in joy for the former Arsenal trainee as he was the star man in the second leg of the semi final, winning the decisive penalty for Freddy Eastwood to convert. Nicolau then played in the final that saw the Blues gain promotion to League One. Of course it was Nicolau’s corner that led to the first goal by Freddy Eastwood.

Nicolau had fallen out of favour after an early season dip in form saw him lose his left back place to the ever-consistent Che Wilson. However, injury to Mark Gower over the Christmas period represented Nicolau with a chance to get back into the first team and a combination of good performances and a stunning goal against Kidderminster Harriers saw him regain favour with the management team. More was to come from Nicky in the left-midfield position as he scored direct from a corner against Swindon Town in early January. However good performances from Gower, notably his stunning goal against Bristol Rovers, meant that Nicky had to settle for a place on the bench, until he was recently recalled.

Nicolau has now been offered another year on his current contract and Tilson expects a decision when the Cypriot returns from his holiday.

"We want him to be apart of next season and we've offered him a year, he's gone away to think about it and we will see what comes of it” Tilly told the official site.

In addition Tilson has announced that he will be dealing with the other player who are out on contract within the next few weeks. Darryl Flahavan has told the Southend Evening Echo he will sign when he returns from his Spanish vacation whilst Che Wilson and Lawrie Dudfield are waiting to be offered new deals.
