Tilson: 'They are up there for a reason'

Blues boss Steve Tilson expects Charlton midfielder and ex-Blue Nicky Bailey to get a hard time from the Shrimpers faithful but knows keeping him quiet is vital to Southend picking up three points.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "He has scored a number of goals at both clubs so he is one of many to watch. If we can keep him quiet as we did at the Valley then that will go a long way to helping us get a result."

The Shrimpers manager will be hoping that the usual Friday night atmosphere at the Hall will inspire the side on to their first win of 2010.

Tilly concluded: "Hopefully, everyone will get behind the team and that will spur the boys on to a good start. Charlton are perhaps out of form at the moment but they are up there for a reason so we won't be taking them lightly."

Parkinson: His troops face

Parkinson: 'We're looking for some inspirational performances'

Addicks boss Phil Parkinson wants his side to banish their recent form of one win in six games, incuding a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton last Tuesday, to the history books.

Parkinson spoke to www.cafc.co.uk: "We're looking for people to stand up to the plate again. We're looking for some inspirational performances. We don't want players looking around waiting for something else to do it - we want someone to say 'I'm going to be that man. It's like a boxer. We've taken a blow in the ring and we've been knocked down. Now we need to get back on our feet and go again until we become successful."

The ex-head Farmer looked ahead to the clash with Southend United under the lights in Essex.

Parkinson continued: "It's a big game, as is every game from here on in. We need to start producing performances which ultimately result in three points. It's another game which comes quickly and there's a possibilty of one or two fresh legs out there. There are a few tired legs out there, but we've given the lads plenty of recovery time."

From the Ginger One Parky expects a less defensive game from the goal scoring midfielder than he saw in midweek as well as expecting a hostile reception.

He concluded: "Nicky did stay deeper (against Brighton), we would have prefered it to be Therry Racon becoause Nicky is our most potent threat in the opposition box. But Nicky has that diligent side to his game as well where he can sense danger. (As for receiving abuse), I should imagine he will, but we haven't mentioned it at all. We might talk about it in the dressing room beforehand."
