Unlucky Damien was making his first pre-season appearance at Dagenham having been suffering a knee problem, but after coming on at half-time he'd only been on the field for 23 minutes when a home player took a fancy to his ankle.

Blues boss Steve Tilson told the Echo: "It was a bad tackle on Damian and his ankle is massive right now. It's really swollen up and, although we don't know how long he is going to be out for, I would be amazed if he was fit enough for our first game against Huddersfield which is obviously disappointing for me and for him."

However, after four wins against non-league opposition has been followed by two defeats to Championship and League Two sides, Tilly remains positive: "These games are all about fitness and this was another good test for us as we continue to prepare for the league. It was also completely different to the game against Ipswich and will certainly have sharpened the players up, which is good."
