Tilson: 'It's a pretty regular thing with Bailey'; Parkinson: 'I thought the ref called that right'

Tilson: 'The lads have given me everything tonight'

Blues boss Steve Tilson was obviously disappointed with the events on the pitch that saw his side competing well with higher placed opponents but ending up with nothing to show for it.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "To concede in the last minute is a bitter blow. When you are down to 10 men for such a long time, Charlton are always going to get chances. The lads have given me everything tonight and I can't fault them. We had a couple of chances ourselves at the end; Francis Laurent should score and Jean (M'Voto) should hit the target from a corner. That is the way it is going for us at the moment."

As for the controversial red card given to Christophe, the Southend manager was straight forward in his view.

Tilly explained: "With the sending off, we know what Nicky Bailey is about; he's diving and rolling around on the pitch and that says it all. It's not the first time he's done it and it's a pretty regular thing with Nicky. With 10 men though we kept two up though and it worked, but we got done by a ball down the side at the end at the end and it cost us tonight."

Parkinson: His troops face

Parkinson: 'Credit to their goalie, he pulled off some great saves'

Addicks boss Phil Parkinson, unsurprisingy, defended his midfield player but wanted to concentrate on the win that keeps his team close to the automatic promotion places.

Parkinson spoke to www.cafc.co.uk: "A red card often galvanises a team and the crowd were really behind them, so it almost galvanised everyone in the stadium to get behind them, and obviously we conceded a very soft goal. It was uncharacteristic of Robbie because he pulled off a fantastic save just before that; it's not easy playing against 10 men, but in the second half we did it as well as can be expected. We passed the ball, we got the ball wide and obviously I'm delighted with the second-half performance."

Parkinson explained why he felt the game changed after the Elliot error that gave the Shrimpers a shock lead minutes after Bailey's antics.

He continued: "I said to the boys at half-time to relax on the ball, simply pass the ball to each other. When we did that in the first half we created chances, but we did that better in the second half, switched the play, made the extra man count and made the most chances. Credit to their goalie, because I thought he pulled off some great saves, and when the David Mooney chance was cleared off the line you begin to wonder if it's going to be our night. But it was, and Kyel coming on as a sub has made a huge impact. When you've got that pace coming off the bench when the opposition players are tired, of course you're going to cause teams problems."

As for the ginger one, Parky should have done a Wenger and denied seeing anything, but the ex-head Farmer, never haven forgiven Southend for taking the League One championship from ColU in 2006, couldn't help himself.

Parkinson concluded: "Nick ran over and pushed a player out of the way and then Christophe's run over and punched him, so I thought the ref called that about right. Nicky probably deserved his yellow. But it was also a definite red in my eyes."
