Tilson: 'It was a silly thing for Franck to do'; Trollope: 'From first minute they caused problems'

Tilson: 'To lose in the last minute was a massive blow'

Blues boss Steve Tilson felt his side should have got something from a game that saw them lose to Bristol Rovers 4-3 after Anthony Grant put the ball into his own net in the third minute of stoppage time.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "We deserved a lot more than we got. We created more chances than they did and for me, we were the better side. To lose in the last minute was a massive blow, as they gave everything."

He felt there were still plenty of positives to take from the match and if they had held on to the early two goal lead until half time the result may well have been different.

However, the Shrimpers manager felt the penalty against them was harsh and, unsurprisingly, was not happy with the Moose.

Tilly continued: "Simon Francis hasn't touched their player, so I was really disappointed with that decision because I think it was the turning point. And it was a silly thing for Franck to do and get himself sent off. It looks as if he's kicked out at their player and if he has done, then it's right he's been sent off. But even with ten men, we looked the only side who were going to win."

Trollope: 'Numerous long throws and free kicks we couldn't cope with'

Pirates boss Paul Trollope was honest enough to admit his team were fortunate to leave the Memorial Stadium Saturday with a win that placed them seven points outside the play-offs.

Trollope talked to www.bristolrovers.co.uk: "We weren't pleased with many of the aspects, especially our defending. From the first minute they caused us problems, more than they should have, and we got in poor positions. The chances they had in the game, we are fortunate to sit here with three points."

They certainly gave themselves a mountain to climb by being two down after only 15 minutes.

Trollope continued: "Mikkel made up for the penalty he gave away early on and made some good saves in the second half, because they got behind us far too many times. It is something we need to address, it has not been an issue over the last eight weeks, but Saturday it was a performance we were not proud off."

Though expecting the Shrimpers would be positive from the start, the battering his team received was certainly a surprise.

The Gas manager explained: "Southend are in a position that they need to force issues in games and they certainly did that. We couldn't get out down the bottom of the hill, we had the slope and the wind against us, there were numerous long throws and free kicks and a lot of long balls in our box we couldn't cope with. You have to give the opposition credit, they did well and got in behind us and set a tempo."
