Tilly: 'Our attitude will certainly need to be a lot better against Southampton'

Blues boss Steve Tilson had nowhere to hide after seeing his team beaten 2-0 by Milton Keynes Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd Round.

Tilly told www.southendunited.co.uk: "MK Dons were the better side tonight by a long way. Compared to how we played at Stockport County on Saturday, we were totally different. We worked hard against Stockport and tonight was the opposite. I would like to apologise to the supporters, because we just didn't work hard enough and that is not good enough."

Even with four changes made from Saturday afternoon there were not enough fresh legs in the team to take on a Dons side that could call on a far bigger squad.

Tilly continued: "A few words have been said at the end, as we need to be competitive. Steve Mildenhall has done ever so well for us and without him. we would have lost by a much bigger margin. Our attitude will certainly need to be a lot better against Southampton in the league this Friday if we are to get a result."

Meanwhile, for MK Dons, first team coach Alex Rae, was obviously the happier man.

Rae: 'You have got the give the players credit'

Rae spoke to www.mkdons.com after the game: "I think the way we applied ourselves tonight was admirable and there was a lot of positives to take from the game, it was a job well done. Their goalkeeper was man of the match and he's pulled off a number of good saves tonight. We started the game very brightly and you have got to give the players credit for that.
