Tilly: 'We looked nervous in the first 20 minutes'

Blues boss Steve Tilson told www.southendunited.co.uk after the game: "With everything that has gone on this week, it was all about concentrating on the game tonight and we did that. We looked nervous for the first 20 minutes and nothing was really happening for either side. But for the last 10 minutes of the first half we created chances and got going."

On the hat-trick hero Tilly continued: "It was a fantastic performance from Barney with his work rate and strength, it all came together. Hopefully, we can keep him injury free and he can get a few more goals this season. It was important to keep a clean sheet and I shouted that to Adam Barrett with five minutes remaining. We have played better this season and not got a result, but it is pleasing to get our first league win tonight."

Williams hails Orient as they make a stand

Williams: 'I couldn't believe some of the passes we were making'

O's boss Geraint Williams spoke to www.leytonorient.com: "We`ve had a frank discussion about our performance in the second half and we are very disappointed about it. I couldn't believe some of the passes we were making, and some we weren't! We never got the ball down and played the way we can and I see every day in training. There were slip-ups defensively too, we got caught from our own set piece for the third goal and that's happening too often."

Sadly, Williams then fell into a fantasy land: "We had a good chance before the penalty and another where it was a case of was it or wasn't it an equaliser, then they got a second and a third. I was happy with the first-half performance and if we had replicated it in the second then we would have been the winners but full credit to Southend."
