Tilly: 'We were excellent in the second half '

Blues boss Steve Tilson felt his side should have left Cumbria with something from the game.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "I'm frustrated and disappointed with the result. For the first 20 minutes we never got started, but after that we had a lot of good chances. I can't remember Carlisle having a shot apart from the goal in the second half. I thought we would get a draw or nick a win on the counter attack. We were excellent in the second half and deserved something out the game.

Abbott: 'The fans were brilliant all day'

The Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott had injury problems off his own but obviously pleased with his side's first win in eight games.

Abbott talked to www.news-and-star.co.uk: "On Friday night I was petrified because we nearly didn't have an XI. I'm happier for the people around me who have supported me, but ultimately I am responsible. I get the flak, so I suppose I should feel that the work we have done all week has had a reward. I'm pretty unsentimental, but I did appreciate the applause I got when I came off the pitch after the warm-up. The fans were brilliant all day. We are nowhere near where we want to be but it was nice to send them home happy."
