Tilly: 'We deserved what we got'

Blues boss Steve Tilson told the official site after the game: "We never got going today. It was a lackluster performance and we didn't do enough to win the game. We didn't pass the ball well enough and each man for himself wasn't up for it. I haven't seen the penalty for their goal, but being at home I expected us to be more creative. It was a great ball from Freedman at the end for Laurent and he has got to score, it's as a simple as that."

However, at the least the Shrimpers haven't got long to get the match out of their system though M'Voto still has plenty of pain in his hip and must be considered doubtful.

Tilly continued: "This is a tight league and apart from Leeds and Charlton everyone is beating each other and I think it will stay the same all year. We have the opportunity to bounce back in three days time at Brentford. Our attitude will have to be spot on and if it is, then we will be OK."

Dave Penney, Oldham Athletic manager

Penney: 'If your going to give a free-kick away, give away a proper one, let them know you're there'

Latics manager Dave Penney spoke to www.oldhamathletic.co.uk about Roots Hall being a lucky ground for him: "I scored here the day my son was born, for Derby County 21 years ago now! It was my first proper professional goal too. I also won here with Doncaster in the F.A. Cup and this is three years in a row for the Latics."

Of the game itself: "I think all the proper chances that came as a result of proper football came from us, they're a big side and they kept launching the ball into the box. You have to do the ugly stuff away from home and we've done that to-day. Two or three weeks ago we wouldn't have got that penalty and then they'd have scored their last minute chance and we'd lost. This time it's gone the other way and we've won the game and we're delighted with that."
