Tilly: 'They have some excellent players'

Blues boss Steve Tilson was ready to party after the team gave him the perfect sixth anniversary present, a 94th minute winner against MK Dons, a team the Shrimpers had failed to beat in six atempts.

It was Lee Barnard's second last minute winner at Roots Hall in a row following the Gillingham match.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk after the game: "It was a great time to score at the end and a fantastic win. There was a lot of pressure on Barney with the penalty, it was brilliant. For our effort and desire, I thought we deserved the win. Having lost our last two games, it was important we made a good start and I thought we did that. Despite that, we have still gone a goal down, but our heads didn't go down; we dug in and played some good stuff at times "

He was magnanimous about the Dons: "We were up against a very good side and if you look at their squad, they have some excellent players. If I'm being honest, if we had got a point, with what's gone on, I would have been pleased, but to get three is a big lift for everyone. I can't believe that there were as many bookings as there were, as it wasn't that type of game. I thought it was a good game of football."

Robinson: 'We were so dominant and so classy going forward'

Meanwhile, assistant Franchise boss Karl Robinson was not a happy bunny after, in his view, they were let down by the referee for the second match in succession.

Robinson told www.mkdons.com: "It's a decision that cost us a result, and with the first one being an own-goal too, we feel a little hard done by. The free-kick that led to their first goal wasn't a free-kick and for the second one the player has just fallen over Martin Devaney. We didn't come out and have a go at the referee, but I think he needs to be honest and explain why he's given it."

Well Karl, Barney was having his shirt pulled in the box which three quarters of the ground saw clearly, so maybe that was it.

Anyway, he went on: "In the first half I thought we were excellent, we were so dominant and so classy going forward. Maybe in the second half we didn't retain the ball as well, but the effort was there. Their attitude and commitment to the cause was outstanding, and that goes right through to the fans as well, their support for the lads was unbelievable."
