The Lewis Files

Lewis Emanuel

I may be 5 foot 8 but I run like a gazelle and reach the heights of an olympic pole vaulter. Mr.Tilson, I am the man for the job.

Lewis may be an inch shorter than Clapham, so the height thing for Jamie leaving may have been a porkie, surely not! However, Lewis played a full 90 minutes against Wycombe looking to have a good football brain with a decent first touch and good pace, ladies and gentlemen we might have found a winner in Left Back Idol.

Lewis Emanuel was born 4 October 1983 in Bradford, he last played for Luton Town in League One at left back, he can also play left midfield.

Emanuel started his career as a youngster with Bradford City. He made his debut for on 21 August 2001 in a League Cup victory over Macclesfield Town. He played five seasons at Bradford, making a total of 139 league games, during which he scored four goals, before his contract expired.

He signed for Luton Town on a free transfer on 21 July 2006. He scored his first goal for Luton in their 1-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday in August 2006. In November 2006, he was named in the Republic of Ireland B international squad for a friendly tie with Scotland B.

On 25 October 2007 he joined Brentford in a one month loan deal, which was then extended for a second month. He was named man-of-the-match on his Brentford debut against Lincoln City. During his loan spell he missed a League Two game on 4 December 2007 against Morecambe after claiming that he got lost on the M25!

Later that season it was widely reported that Emanuel had joined Lincoln City on loan, but the deal was cancelled as Luton entered administration. This led to the release of several Luton players, and a resultant lack of players meant that Luton required Emanuel's services.

In July 2008, Emanuel had a trial at Birmingham City, ahead of their first season back in the Championship. He played in a Birmingham pre-season friendly against Forest Green Rovers in the second half of the Brummies 1-0 victory. Manager Alex McLeish said: "We got a recommendation. He's a left-sided player, I think his forte is going forward. He looked okay. He's a free agent and we will keep an eye on him, and I'll get his thoughts to see what he's thinking as well. What I am really after are players to come in who are better than what we have."

So no contract then, let's hope Birmingham's loss is Southend's gain. Over to you Tilly.
