Clayton: If you just leave a leg in, you might get injured'

Midfielder Adam Clayton joined Manchester City at the age of seven! On May 5th 2009 he signed a two year contract extension with the Premiership billionaires.

Clayton was called up for the England Under-20 squad in the 2009 under-20 World Cup.

Adam joined the Cumbrians on loan on November 2nd, 2009, originally until January, but this was extended until the end of the season in the second transfer window.

Having scored his first league goal for his present club in midweek, the winner in a 1-0 victory over Yeovil, the player is full of confidence, and has no intention of letting next week's JPT Final against Southampton get in the way of doing his best against the Shrimpers.

Clayton told www.newsandstar.co.uk: "If there is a tackle to be made, you've got to make that tackle. If you just leave a leg in, you might get injured. Wembley is on your mind when you are off the pitch. I think it is slowly creeping into our minds and it is an exciting time for us all. But when you are on the pitch it is easy to shut all that out. We have got an important game at Southend to think about before we can allow ourselves to start looking forward to the big one."

Not totally out of your mind then Alan, we will have to see what happens at Saturday afternoon, but for now the England youth international is putting Roots Hall before Wembley!

Clayton continued: "The dressing room is buzzing. Since I've been here there has only been the occasional week when it's been down after a bad result or two. But if we win at Southend we are almost there and we can enjoy Wembley and the end to the season. To be honest, I can't see why Carlisle have been where they have been in the league before, because there is a brilliant team spirit here and some good individual players. The run of form we are on now is justified when you think of the ability we've got here."
