Swindon Match Off

Despite valiant efforts by the home club the weather has won the day and the game called off.

Anyone watching the news will see that the South-West has been particularly hard hit with heavy snowfall fallen over the past few days.

However, the Swindon ground staff, along with an army of supporters, al la Southend on Tuesday, cleared half the surface on Friday afternoon. When 32 sheets of black plastic tarpaulin brought in from Sandown racecourse covered the pitch, hopes remained high.

But with tempatures overnight freezing the pitch at the County Ground referee Karl Evans had no other choice but to postpone the match.

No new date for either Swindon or Scunthorpe has been confirmed.

At least it was a decent time before the kick-off. (And the rugby and cricket are still on!)
