Super Gary Hooper!

Anyone that read my last review may have noticed my "slight dislike" of that little Welsh lot holding up the Football League . . well at last its happened - at last the little hell hole of a town with its anti English inhabitants have seen their beloved "Town" relegated and how sweet it was for me to see a player on loan from Southend, Super Hoops, put the final nail in a coffin which I have been waiting years to see disappear into oblivion!

Cast your minds back to April 10th 2005 and seeing those 20,000 bouncing Taffs rejoicing after winning the LDV. For a lot of Southend fans that was it, walk away and it was a bad memory - for me having the "pleasure" of being engaged (soon to be married) to a delightful young lady from Wrexham I will never ever be able to forget that day. For them (the future in-laws) any victory is a victory for Wales against England - if anyone has ever had the misfortune of spending more than 90 mins in the dump they might have noticed that the locals treat anyone other than their own as dirt! I have spent many uncomfortable nights out in Wrexham where it seemed as if the locals took it in turns to "bump into you on purpose".

Going back to the Football though, the team has spent the last 87 years in the Football League, they've knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup (another one, where if you're from London you have to be reminded about it) as well as West Ham. They've almost gone out of business and although it may seen extremely harsh I for one would not shed any tears had they done. The last two seasons they have diced with relegation, it was only a last day victory over Boston (who at half time flung themselves "a la Leeds" into administration) that kept them in. This season I cant recall a time when they have come out of the bottom four and at last it has happened. I did send texts to the in laws who are so awfully quick to let me know when England have lost that they'd been relegated and my feelings on the matter - to which I got a couple back telling me to in no uncertain times to go away - funny when the shoe is on the other foot I'm being unreasonable if I were to say such things.

So on this day when we are supposed to celebrate our patron saint - I'd like to wish you all a Happy St George's Day and praise Super Gary Hooper for making my week!

(And he could end up still making ours as it's confirmed this Saturday will be Hoops last game for Hereford as his 93 day emergency loan comes to an end. With the news that Walker could not play in a possible Wembley play-off final for the same reason an in-form Hooper could be very good news indeed, certainly adds to Tilly's options on the bench.)
