Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'There's a certain budget for the footballing side'

A fortnight ago it was confirmed that Southend United were continuing to cut back on costs making a further three members of their back-room staff redundant, including goalkeeping coach Lee Turner, kit-man Steve Parmenter, and 'transfer advisor' Billy Jennings, all leaving the club.

However, Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock expects to have continued financial support from chairman Ron Martin if he wants an injection of any more new players into the first team squad despite the obvious financial restraints elsewhere around Roots Hall.

Sturrock told BBC Essex: "In the end that's not been a feature."

Maybe so Lugs me old fruit but loanee failures Waide Fairhurst and Nathaniel Jarvis were sent back to Doncaster and Cardiff respectively before Oxford's Jack Midson and QPR's Antonio German took their place.

To be fair Michael Timlin was recalled by Swindon Town early so hopefully there might be a bit of dosh there, but that could have been some extra due to captain Craig Easton's long injury lay-off.

Anyway, Sturrock confirmed: "There's a certain budget for the footballing side. With some of the players moving away again, it frees up some of the budget."

So until another club decides to take a chance on fringe players such as Johnny Herd, Matt Paterson, Scott Spencer, obviously Luggy is not a fan of the Tilly trio, and, possibily, Luke Prosser when the other centre-backs return, do not expect any more new faces.
