Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'I thought a draw was a fair result'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock accepted the loss of vital home points with good grace, as the now familiar site of a tired looking Shrimpers side hanging on at the end still did enough to deserve the draw.

The home side still saw the majority of the ball, and were certainly the team that tried to keep the ball on the ground and play through a defensive minded Cobblers team that would usually react by fouling the main Shrimpers ball players of Ryan Hall and Anthony Grant when ever danger lurked.

A tactic worked out on the training field and something Southend better get used to for the remaining 14 games of the season.

Sturrock told BBC Essex: "We went behind but again we've dug ourselves out of a hole. They've had a great chance at the back post where the boy should have done better and we've had some chances where the 'keeper has made some decent saves. I thought a draw was a fair result and to be fair we looked a leggy team, so I'm settling for a draw."

Crosby: 'We have to try to get a couple of wins behind us'

Meanwhile, Cobblers assistant boss Malcolm Cosby, while happy enough with an away point, their sixth draw in a row, a club record, continued the theme of their manager Ian Sampson in the week that they have to start turning all square into all wins!

Crosby told BBC Radio Northampton: "If you're getting a draw away from home, it's generally a very good result. What we haven't been doing is taking advantage of the home games. There's a good spirit there, because we're not losing games, and there's plenty of points left. We still believe we have an outside chance of getting into the play-offs. We have to try to get a couple of wins behind us and we have to take advantage."

I think I'd rather be where we are
