Sturrock: Waiting to see if Ron coughs up the dosh before putting pen to paper
Chairman Ron Martin has continued to insist that Southend United will not be forced into administration at the high court on Thursday when it faces yet another legal challenge from her Majesty's taxman over a six-figure debt.
And he's told the Guardian newspaper that new manager Paul Sturrock, along with assistant Tommy Widdrington, would not have joined the club if that was the case.
Howether, both the recently joined management team have wisely held back from signing any new contracts until they get the nod the threat of a ten-point reduction for administration has gone away, the transfer embargo has been lifted, and any players they do talk into coming down to Roots Hall will in fact get paid!
At Monday's press conference announcing his arrival Sturrock was asked about having actually putting pen to paper: 'No, we came to agreement as it was all so quick, had to get here asap!"
Yes, Paul. Scots always being wiser where money is concerned than some of us south of the border!
Uncle Ron struck back, telling www.guardian.co.uk: "We've now cut the budgets significantly and it will be more controllable in League Two. We are way past the worst. Paul Sturrock would not have joined if not."
Well he might have done, he was out of a job, touch more riskier for Tommy though, so let's hope the Shrimpers supremo, in this and his insistance on the court case being a formality, is proved correct and we do have a team turning out at, now, Dartford next Friday.
