Sturrock: Happy with team's form

Sturrock: 'It was difficult circumstances with some of the players not arriving until just before kick-off'

A fifth successive win, shame about the goal, (a flukey deflected free-kick), a step closer to a Wembley appearance; all in all a good evening's work by his reshaped team for Blues boss Paul Sturrock, which proved to him he's built a decent squad that will help when the going gets tougher later on in the season.

However, Luggy has to wrestle with what he believes will be his best starting eleven for Saturday's League Two clash with Dario Gradi's Railwaymen.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I’m very pleased by the performance and how the players battled through to win the game. It was difficult circumstances with some of the players not arriving until just before kick off but I was very pleased by the response of those who came in. I decided to rest Liam Dickinson, Kane Ferdinand and Mark Phillips and I thought that gave us a freshness. But now I have some difficult decisions to make for the Crewe game because those who came in did well.”

Ryan Hall and his two brilliant strikes we've written about already, but good to hear some decent words written about our temperamental Frenchman who at last had 90 minutes in the central defence, and no cards, that boxing must be helping!

Sturrock explained:“Hallsy is a quality player and he showed that again here. Bilel was perhaps a little bit rusty to begin with but then got in to the game and did well in his natural position. He hasn’t played there for a while but he was strong and there wasn’t anything negative to say about him.”

Not sure that's enough to keep him in the starting eleven for Crewe but EEB and S24 were pushing for his selection for this game and it hasn't done him any harm; there were plenty of concerns beforehand.

Go Bilel!
