Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'We were on the front foot until the very end'

There was plenty to like for new Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock as he saw the team that Luggy built in a couple of weeks fight back from an early goal down to share the spolis with the Rams through a Matt Paterson penalty.

Sturrock spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "It was unfortunate to concede early on but we were on the front foot until the very end. We have a lot of players here that have natural fitness and I'm pleased with the shape of the team. The last two weeks have been a learning curve for me. You've got to give the players of this football club credit for showing how much they are committed tonight."

And there was certainly plenty of passion, and no little skill, on display to keep the Southend boss enthusiastic about the future.

Sturrock continued: "It's impressive that the players have shown a good attitude though and the standard of football we saw tonight is very promising indeed."
