Sturrock sticks up for Shrimpers top scorer: 'People either love or hate Baz'

Corr: Late equaliser for Southend

Corr: 'I probably feel the same way about Exeter as Torquay do'

14 goal top scorer Barry Corr grabbed an 81st minute equaliser to rescue a vital point against the Gulls Saturday afternoon and keep the club to within four points of the play-off zone.

So it's strange that he still has to win the hearts of many of the Shrimpers support, then again it was only a couple of matches ago S24 gave him a 4 mark after a listless display against league leaders Chesterfield!

Not surprisingly Blues boss Paul Sturrock, though realising his faults, is very grateful for his useful knack of finding the back of the old onion bag at important moments.

A cup game at Macclesfield, a league match at Stevenage; two examples of Barry striking the net and saving the day for Southend.

Strurrock told www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk: "People either love or hate Baz, but he's popped up again with another goal and that's 14 for the season now which is very good. One minute he looks tired and knackered, the next he's as fresh as a daisy, but he's playing more games than he ever has before and that's why he's getting more goals. This was another important one and it's a good point which I thought we deserved."

Fair enough Luggy, but it was amusing to hear the home faithful having a go at Corr due to his time spent at Devon rivals Exeter City, the goal shutting them up quickly enough.

Bizzare though, as the tall centre-forward has openly made clear in the past, he also has no fondess for the Grecians!

Barry concluded: "I'm not really too sure why they were singing what they were because I probably feel the same way about Exeter as they do. It was nice to get another goal though and I thought we thoroughly deserved a point in the end. We could maybe have even gone on and got a win, but this is still a good result and it gets even better if we can win at home to Barnet tomorrow."
