Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss
Sturrock: 'Very disappointed by the way the reserves played at Aveley'

It wasn't a bad Blues Two's side that walked out to face the Millers of Aveley Monday evening in the semi-final of the Essex Senior Cup.

And 90 minutes later they were walking back after a 2-1 defeat to the Ryman Premier club, in front of a less than happy Blues boss Paul Sturrock.

Keeper Glenn Morris made an error for the opening goal, Luke Prosser had a bit of a mare, Louie Soares was, well, Louie Soares, (release the Southend one), and young Harry Crawford couldn't grab a goal, though fellow striker Kyle Asante did at least get on the scoresheet again but in a losing cause this time.

So it looks no change from the side that was held to a 1-1 draw by Northampton Town last Saturday, except, hopefully, for the return of Kane Ferdinand, though that would be hard on Lee Sawyer who has worked hard and looked busy in the midfield engine room since Kane's absence, but the young Irishman has been missed in his position of playing in front of the back four and should return if fully fit.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "The injuries we've had have given other players a chance to push their way in to the team but I have to say I was very disappointed by the way the reserves played at Aveley on Monday in the Essex Senior Cup. It was their chance to stake a claim for a place in the first team and not one of them took it. Nobody out there did themselves any favours at all."
