Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'That was more like the way we started the season'

Well, well, well; a 2-0 win at 8th placed Cheltenham Town with both goals grabbed by the much criticised Oxford United loanee striker Jack Midson.

Reasons to be cheerful for Blues boss Paul Sturrock!

Sturrock told BBC Essex: "It's taken a long time to come. That was more like the way we started the season. There was a work-rate and a commitment to the cause. From the first whistle, we were right on the front foot. If we keep playing like that we're going to win a lot of games."

Now let's keep it going for the Saturday visit to Roots Hall of top six Wycombe Wanderers.

Yates: Keen to move on quickly

Yates: 'I'm a bit embarrased by it to be honest'

Meanwhile, Robins boss Mark Yates was certainly not at a loss for words to try and explain just what went wrong in front of the Whaddon Road faithful.

In fact, we've had to edit him down to leave some space, a link to his full statement below.

Yates told www.ctfc.com: "It was a poor performance and I'm a bit embarrased by it to be honest. We were bullied in all departments and I found out one ot two things tonight. There were two many beaten by their opponents in the first twenty minutes. We didn't work hard enough and if you don't do that then you won't deserve anything from games. We huffed and puffed in the second half but it means nothing when you're 2-0 down at home against a team better than us."

High praise indeed for the victorious Shrimpers, and he's nothing less than honest on the efforts of both sides.
