Sturrock: Praised team after win

Sturrock: 'It’s brilliant that we’re taking so many fans to the game'

The great news a while back was that the club sold out their allocation of 1,500 tickets for the weekend League Two match with struggling Dagenham & Redbridge.

The question now is that with an average home gate of only 1,988, will there be more Shrimpers than Daggers inside Victoria Road on Saturday?

It could be close as the word is that some of the faithful travelling to the game are without tickets and, let's face it, there's little difference in the accent to spot at the gate, so entry to the home ends could be made on the day, or that tickets have been bought in advance already, hope they had an acceptable address to hand over, or went in person!

Be interesting if we score!

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It’s brilliant that we’re taking so many fans to the game and I’m sure they will make plenty of noise in support of the side. When we went to Barnet last month it almost felt like a home match for us because we had so many fans there and hopefully it will be the same at Dagenham. We really do appreciate the fans coming out to watch us play and I’m sure it will really give our players a lift.”

While Southend remain top of the League Two table without a defeat in their last 13 matches, winning 11 of them, Dag & Red have only won once in the last 13 and are third from bottom in the table, three points off the relegation zone.

Striker Neil Harris added: 'It’s a local derby for us this season and it’s brilliant that we’ve sold our 1,500 ticket allocation for the match.'

Of course, it will be like a cup tie for the home side with such vocal support for the visitors so obviously a positive reult cannot be taken for granted, their veteran manager John Still will certainly have them up for the game.

However, Luggy is no mug himself, will have the players ready for what to expect, and three points should very much be on.
