Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'Sometimes you get sucked into playing a different way'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock was obviously happy with another away point, United's fourth draw in a row (though they eventually lost the Cup game on penalties), but is concerned that the lack of victories is affecting any possible promotion push.

The Shrimpers actually dropped two places in the League Two table after the Tuesday evening 1-1 result with Stevenage.

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I think the players have worked very hard over the last two games. We deserved a draw and if you think from chances made they have scored from their only opportunity and my goalie hasn't had much else to do. I would like to think if we can score first then we can take control of the match."

We would hope so too Luggs, and certainly we have had to come from behind on all four occasions.

However, he can't congratulate the players enough for the effort they have put in over the last two games.

Sturrock continued: "The work rate and attitude has been very good but sometimes you get sucked into playing a different way you don't want to play. But the players adapted very well and we have come out with a point from two difficult places - Shrewsbury and Stevenage. Drawing away from home is all well and good but we have to start putting three points on the board at Roots Hall because then it becomes promotion material."

Westley: Wants quick improvement

Westley: 'We went ahead against the run of play'

Meanwhile, Boro boss Graham Westley was just pleased to have left the Lamex Stadium with a draw.

Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio: "I feel fortunate to come away with a point to be honest. In the first half they had far the better of the chances, we had a bright start, but we went ahead against the run of play. They had a number of opportunities to equalise and probably could have gone in with a lead at half time. We dug in second half and looked as if we were going to see it out."
