Sturrock: 'Stockport are a dangerous animal'
Blues boss Paul Sturrock has no choice, with no loanees signing for the club, either through a transfer embargo or just no money to pay their wages anyway, to play his youngsters at Saturday afternoon at Edgeley Park against bottom of the table Stockport County.
For both teams, at opposite ends of the table, this game could end their competitive season, either an outside chance of the play-offs for the Shrimpers, or worse, relegation to the Conference for the Hatters.
And Luggy knows his side are in for a tough one.
Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "Stockport are a dangerous animal for us because they are scrapping to stay in the league. There's also a rugby game taking place on Friday before our game so the pitch isn't going to be the best. However, the team I put out must be ready to do battle from the final whistle to the last."
Well, that's telling the boys Alex Woodyard and Jamie Stephens, rumoured to be in the starting line-up, and especially for Jamie if the injury to Lee Sawyer is concerned, and George Smith and Terry Nesbitt, expected to be on the subs bench.
Sturrock continued: "We will be taking the lads from the youth team and they will be involved. We have no options but it will be good experience for them and the injury problems we have does open the door for other players to impress."
