Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'It's not cast in stone yet that Herdy will come in'

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "We're going to have to come up with something weird and wonderful. I've got a couple of options to consider and I'm going to take my time about this one. We're travelling up Friday so i'll be watching some dvd's of games and looking at some reports as well which will help me make up my mind."

And young Johnny launching those long throws into the Silkmen's penalty area?

Sturrock wasn't giving anything away: "We will be training up there too so I can look at a few things and it's not cast in stone yet that Herdy will come in. It's something I will be thinking about in the build up to the game."

Ryan Hall for left-back then!

Whatever the team, it's going to be a long trip and a tough game.

Luggy concluded: "We've had them watched three times and they're a strong, hard-working side and at home they have been a handful for everybody. They drew at Rotherham in the week and you don't do that if you're not a decent side so it's a very difficult tie for us."

Simpson: Macc earned point

Simpson: 'The competition is very important to the football club'

Meanwhile, Silkmen boss Gary Simpson is happy with the confidence levels of his team after winning their last three matches at home, though they have a bizarre goal difference at Moss Rosse of for 8 against 10, and grabbed a great 1-1 draw at Rotherham in midweek.

Simpson told www.mtfc.co.uk: "That game took a lot out of us physical, but the lads came back refreshed after their day off and we've had a good couple of days on the training ground."

And taking on the Shrimpers in the first round of country's premier cup competition with maybe a Premiership side waiting in the wings after a couple of games?

Simpson continued: "They'll be a bit of added pressure on us because its the FA Cup. But the message Glyn and I have been giving the lads is the same as before. They need to start from the very first whistle. We can't afford any more starts. Do that and I'm confident we'll make it tough for Southend. The competition is very important to the football club and if we get a good run this year it will be a big lift to everyone."
