Sturrock: 'It just bit us in the bum'
The pressure is building on Blues boss Paul Sturrock after the Shrimpers third successive defeat at Bury Saturday afternoon leaving his side four points off the bottom.
Sturrock told the Press Association: "There's the old cliche of a game of two halves. I'm bitterly disappointed we didn't get anything out of the game. We got out of jail coming in at half-time 1-0 down but second half it was like flicking a light switch. People wanted the ball all over the pitch and there was a will to win. There's a naivety in this team. Individually there is a naivety and it's manifesting itself team-wise as well now. Last week we produced our worst performance of the season but this week we've come to a very good side and been competitive over the 90 minutes."
The trick for Luggy is to try and get that light switched on at the start of the game next weekend against fourth placed and last season's defeated play-off finalists Rotherham United.
He continued: "It's a huge disappointment. To look at that performance in the first half and then in the second half - it's the same people but a different team. But it just bit us in the bum, we just had so many chances and took none of them."
Knill: 'A hard fought 1-0'
Bury boss Alan Knill was realistic enough to know that sometimes you can't keep the level of performance you wish over a full 90 minutes, but the trick is ending up with the three points, which the Shakers did well enough.
Knill told BBC Radio Manchester: "I think there is a belief within the dressing room that this season we can do something and the way you prove that is by performances and the stats don't lie. You can't always play free-flowing football like you want to and you have to dig in and I thought that was the performance today, a hard fought 1-0. We're going well but you have to expect ups and downs but the good thing is the attitude in the changing room is fantastic."
