'Strong Words Were Said At Half Time' - Steve Tilson

Assistant boss Steve Tilson expected more from his team.
Speaking to Tilson after the 1-1 draw at Scraley Road, the Blues new assistant boss was far from pleased with the performance of his side; 'It was very poor in the first half, it was just a lack of commitment and passion basically, from each and everyone of them' the former Shrimpers midfielder said before explaining that 'Some strong words were said at half time'.

As Tilson went into further detail, he said that; 'it's just disappointing. You come to these places, and I stressed to them that I played here last year - two League games for Canvey Island - and we beat them six and seven nil, and with the quality we've got in there I thought we'd come here and beat them, but this just wasn't good enough'.

'Second half we done better, a bit more passion and a bit more commitment. I though Johnny (McGrath) done well, he worked hard, worked his socks off'.
Tilson proclaimed, before stessing that; 'That's four non-league sides we've played now and we've only beaten Burnham Ramblers, it isn't good enough. We told them that at half time and we done a little bit better second half, but we've still got to beat these sides, especially after Tuesday night when they put in such a good performance and then come here and the first half was just shocking'

The hot news is also that the reported deal for a new striker is complete, with the medical to be held this morning (Friday). Rumours have it that the new man, for whom United will pay a fee, could be Exeter City striker Steve Flack, but all we can say is watch this space...
